Pastor Scott Laws

Instructor of Biblical Counseling

Scott has been joyfully married to his wife, Debrah, for 49 years. Together, they have raised five adult children—Lydia Faith, Stephanie Hope, Sarah Love, Stuart Brandon, and Matthew Ryan—and are blessed with seven grandchildren who continue to enrich their lives.
With over four decades of ministry experience, Scott has faithfully served as senior pastor in three churches and as associate pastor in five others. His calling has also led him into the classroom, where he taught middle and high school students for seven years, nurturing both minds and hearts.

For ten years, Scott served as Pastor of Counseling, Global Missions, and Evangelism at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. During his tenure, he conducted more than 5,000 counseling sessions, offering biblically grounded support in areas such as marriage and family, anger management, abuse recovery, grief, and crisis care.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and a Master’s degree in Clinical Christian Counseling. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Christian Counseling. He is a Licensed Pastoral Counselor and a Licensed Temperament Therapist through the National Christian Counselors Association. His professional affiliations include the American Association of Christian Counselors and the Association of Biblical Counselors. He also completed an intensive two-year Nouthetic counseling program under the guidance of Dr. Jay Adams.

Above all, Scott finds his greatest fulfillment in teaching the Word of God and walking alongside those who seek spiritual growth. His life’s mission is to encourage, equip, and uplift others through the transforming power of Scripture and Christ-centered counsel.
